NHAG/SDFN entering a cooperation with OpenStreetMap and NUST to map informal settlements in urban areas.

The Namibia Housing Action Group (NHAG) TRUST, the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia (SDFN), and the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) are currently implementing the OpenStreetMap project with financial support through the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team. OpenStreetMap works with organizations and communities across 23 countries in creating and updating free, editable, and shareable open map data. The project will be implemented in line with the Community Land Information Programme (CLIP) and is implemented by NHAG/NUST technical team as well as Youth from SDFN and NUST.

The project in Namibia is focusing on mapping urban areas with informal settlement as areas of interest. Availing open map data on Namibian informal settlements will benefit communities and professionals in all regions to identifying problems, monitoring change, setting priorities, and understanding humanitarian and development trends.
